Literacy/Coach Specialist for English Learners 

Grades 6-12

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Literacy/Professional Development/Coach Specialist for English Learners serves as assistant to the Director of Teaching and Learning/EL Director and is expected to understand and accept the mission of the Leominster Public Schools in reference to the education of English Learners. Must have knowledge of research-based instructional strategies, methodology, and materials for ELL students, demonstrate knowledge of second language acquisition theory and practice, and be committed to ongoing professional learning. Provide a variety of services for the English Language Learners Department through planning, implementing curriculum, supporting content teachers, and coordinating programs. This is in order to deliver Leominster Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the opportunity gap among subgroups within the schools.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Massachusetts Teaching license in ESL and SEI Endorsement are required. Please note that licensure requirements are subject to change at the discretion of DESE.


TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

At least a Master’s Degree in the area of MS/HS/ELE/ curriculum. At least 3 years of working as a MS/HS teacher and three years as an ESL teacher.  

Demonstrated success facilitating and providing professional development to support adult learners

Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students and that aligns with current research as disseminated by the department of multilingual education.

Reports to: Administrators of Teaching and Learning 

 

Salary:  Teacher on Special Assignment, salary + 10 percent of base (204 days) - 2 weeks before the school year starts and 5 days after the school year ends with 5 days flexible.
