Special Education Teacher - Elementary Level 

 

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher for our upper elementary school program. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special education, with experience in creating and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), collaborating with general education staff, and providing both inclusion and pull-out services.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. IEP Development and Implementation:

    • Develop, write, and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for upper elementary students with special needs in accordance with state and federal regulations.
    • Regularly assess and monitor student progress toward IEP goals and make necessary adjustments to instructional strategies and goals.
    • Facilitate IEP meetings with parents, general education teachers, and other relevant staff members to review and update IEPs.
  2. Instructional Support:

    • Provide specialized instruction to upper elementary students with disabilities in a variety of settings, including general education classrooms (inclusion) and separate settings (pull-out services).
    • Adapt and modify upper elementary curriculum and instructional materials to meet the individual needs of students.
    • Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies and interventions to support student learning and development.
  3. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Collaborate effectively with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other school staff to support the academic and social-emotional needs of students with disabilities.
    • Provide consultation and support to general education teachers on differentiated instruction, behavior management, and accommodations for students with special needs.
    • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and to address any concerns or questions.
  4. Behavior Management:

    • Implement positive behavior support plans and strategies to promote appropriate behavior and social skills in students.
    • Address and manage challenging behaviors through proactive and reactive strategies.
  5. Professional Development:

    • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.
    • Stay informed about new developments in special education laws, policies, and procedures.
